The age group considered child was five to twelve years. Commercials in this g roup advertised products aimed at children to include cereals, dolls, and toys, as well as products aimed at women, such as laundry detergent, using girls for advertisers. I did find a basic format of the childs commercial, even though the actors and products varied greatly. I found camera action to be slow and fluent. Very few jump cuts and quick zooms were used; instead, individual shots slid from scene to scene very fluidly. The camera would focus on the children, giving equal coverage to each child and each product. This type of action gave the viewer time to clearly see the product, as well as the actress using it. The child actresses had similarities in almost every commercial. Most notably, they were all female, appearing to be between the ages of six and eight, no matter what toy was being advertised. The girls were outfitted in pinks, blues, yellows, and greens of all shades, but mostly light pastels. A Doll’s House is a play written by Henrik Ibsen during the Victorian era that portrays the role of women at that time, not only in marriage but in society as well, the gender discrimination suffered quietly by the women and witnessed impassively by the men, and subsequently reflects on the attitude each gender has towards itself as well as towards the other gender. In this paper the following is discussed – how Nora became aware of this inequality and the oppression she faced in the course of the three Acts in the play, what gender equality really meant at that time, and how the writer integrated such messages of inequality and oppression into the play. In this play Ibsen talks about Nora Helmer’s journey of self-discovery, which led her†¦show more content†¦Nora’s lies and secrets added on to an ever-evolving description of her character. Such behaviour is exposed when she first eats macaroons and lies about it to Torvald stating that ‘she would never go against his wishes’ and that she had given him ‘her word’ for it. She had already gone against the society norm by disobeying her husband, (in the Victorian times, woman conformed to their husbands in every little way). The interaction between Nora and Torvald, especially in Act One, was not as if they were equals but rather of a loyal pet and master. Nora responds playfully to Torvald’s criticism. She is a willing participant in their dysfunctional relationship. She understands that her husband sees her as an innocent, child-like persona, and she struggles to maintain the faà §ade. But as Act One continues we start to see N ora’s diligent and witty side. With Mrs. Linde she boasts about her life with Torvald and how happy she is, but is quick to speak of her achievements when she is thought low of. Another side of Nora is portrayed in that scene, a side which even Torvald never knew of; she talks to Christine about her â€Å"saved Torvald’s life†. This gives us a better insight on Nora, regarding how she leads a double life, that she has not been ‘thoughtlessly spending money, but saving money to pay of her debt’. Upon hearing this readers no longer see a naive little girl but a woman who can take risks to save what isShow MoreRelatedA Doll s House By Henrik Ibsen1634 Words   |  7 Pages A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen Henrik Ibsen illustrates how self sacrifice of characters, cultivates betrayal in relationships. David was one of the most anointed man of God found in the bible. Perhaps thats one of the reasons why there are so many different versions of David, that a lot of artists from different periods depicts many different story of Davits life. David become the King of Israel after Saul stepped down. His name become well known as the King of Israel. Not to mention, he was first acknowledge when he win against Giant Goliath with only a stick and a few tones on his hands. He called upon Gods name and took his first shot which goes straight into Goliath head and killed him. The first David that Im going to talk about is David in the period of High Renaissance done by Michelangelo Bonaparte. Michelangelo was one of the greatest sculptor of all time. As his work David become one of the most famous masterpiece that he has done, which has been admired by a lot of people even until now. It was made between the year 1501-1504 by Michelangelo when he was only 24. He was given a giant slab of marble that other sculptor had disregard years before. No one has never expected that it turns out to be one of the greatest art work in the history. The statue was made on the city of Florence and was originally located at Piazza Della Signora. It is then moved to prevent breakage from time and weather. The statue is now resides in the Gallery of the Academia did Belle Art. Michelangelo represented David as a strong and healthy man both physically and mentally condition, symbolize a Napoleonic Ideal. It was the first nude male figure sculpted since classical antiquity. He believe that reapportions and expressions represents a typical of Michelangelo work. It depicts self control as well as tension at the same time. As from what I have described, Michelangelo David somewhat characterize and symbolize perfectly on Florentine feeling. During that time, Florence was going through some difficult time. Because they were a major political force in Italy at that time, Florence was feared that they will dominate against Rome. The city then becomes alert and ready to face continual threats. David represented as a heroic male model of courage. David delivers a strong message of his inner spiritual trench which can proved that they are more effective than a mans strength. He showed us that his faith in God has saved him, not because his own strength but it is all by God (The Lord is my strength and my shield. ). Florentine picturing themselves as David fighting against the Giant Roman. The statue representing their feelings become the civic piece of the City of Florence which represents the Florentine pride. The next David that Im going to discuss is David in the period of Italian Baroque done by Giant Lorenz Bernie. It was done between 1623 to 1624, sculpted by Bernie at the age of 25. Looking at the two Davis, both artists visualized different moment and feeling into their sculpture, even though it comes from the same story. Michelangelo gives a story before the Giant Goliath approached, while Bernie captures right on the moment of battle, a man of dynamic mid-action. He represents David on his maximum torque, his torso is twisted at the very back ready to release his stone, making him to a goanna postures that fills with energy. The sculpture has the characteristics of Italian Baroque art, they are dynamic in composition, theatrical setting, full of motions and emotions. Almost like a typical of Hellenic sculpture. The energy and drama that the artist show doesnt only come from the gestures but it pictured clearly on Davits expressions as well. He is pushing his eye brow together depicts such a great determination, and concentration. The way he is biting his lips also create a great tension to the scene. The whole physical movement and gestures is known as Baroque moment, a time when the action has been captured in mid-narration. Looking from the gestures and all the motions that David presented it is somewhat telling the viewer the emotional that relates to the battle between churches. As during the 1 517 there was a shifting of Catholic teaching known as Protestant Reformation under the leadership of Martin Luther. He was displeased with the Catholic churches as well as the leaders and their life style. As a result he break away from the former Catholic churches and established a new Christianity known as and Protestant. Many of the Catholics began to follow Luther and become Protestant. During the mid 16th century throughout 17th century, the Catholics began to acts theological campaign lead by the Pope in Rome, known as the Catholic Counter Reformation. The goal is to inspire the population with the work of art and architecture and pursued them to stay faithful with Catholic church and bring them back. The David by Bernie perhaps telling the viewer the way the Catholic churches felt as they were battling against Luther to win people back. In conclusion, both artists specialized their talent on sculpting even though they do work with other hypes of medium. They depicts the same story from the bible of David fighting against Goliath. Michelangelo tells a story of David waiting for Goliath approach in a calm standing contrasts pose yet aware of his surrounding. This over 14 feet statue stand as a civic pride representing Florentine pride. While Berings David captures the Baroque moment of Davits mid action unleashing his slingshot. The sculptures bring so much motion and energy compare to Michelangelo David.

Juan Bolivar Soto Essays (783 words) - Speculative Fiction

Juan Bolivar Soto Teacher Budhram Pre-AP World Literature February 2017 New Beginnings Lian Hearn is an Australian author that was captivated by the Japanese culture since she was very young. She was mesmerized by the diverse traditions she had the opportunity to learn when she visited Japan in 1993. In her book, "Across the Nightingale Floor", she utilizes many literal devices through the course of the story to describe the events and illustrate a detailed imaginary picture of the situations taking place for the reader. The story begins with the protagonist named Tomasu, later known as Takeo, whom develops heightened senses of hearing and alternative powers after losing his family along the village where he grew up in a mass murder caused by the lord Ida Sadamu, he is the most powerful from the 3 clans: Ida, Otori and Noguchi gaining his power through merciless conquest, battles and persecutions. Takeo emotionally unstable, shocked and full of sorrow is saved by Lord Otori whom finds him disoriented in the woods running away from Ida's men whom are pursuing him from c ausing their lord to fall off his horse, refusing to let go of the fugitive Otori takes Tomasu in giving him the chance to start a new life as a member of the Otori Clan, change his name and beliefs with the opportunity to avenge his family. Lian Hearn, the author of the book, uses imagery to represent the scenery and acute hearing Takeo experiences during the making of his new unraveled self. During the travel to the Hagi Village where the Otori live, they pass through other towns and mountains where Lian describes the scenery through the imagery literary device to appeal to our senses as well as to in detail describe the heightened hearing ability he is able to discover and prove in his stay at each one of the villages. In the story, Takeo is able to hear sounds such as water falling from far away, birds chirping up in the sky, the clapping of wish swimming on the surface of lakes miles away and most accurately the voice of servants and maid's rooms away yet with the same quality as if they were whispering their conversations right onto his ear. The author not only uses imagery but also personification to describe the newly found powers Takeo obtains after his encounter with Lord Ida "The murmur of a stream sounded to me like the voice of the water spirit, and every time a fox barked or an owl hooted I came awake, my pulse racing." This describes Takeo's perception of sounds at night while he tries to sleep but mercilessly failed due to the many sounds he's getting at once. They don't allow him to focus, the smallest of whispers jolts him up, un-allowing him to sleep or take a break. This makes Takeo nervous, for he had never heard of such thing before and didn't want to speak on it so the other would think he's crazy or to disappoint Lord Otori. He already owed him enough and couldn't risk the chance of embarrassing his savior over crazy assumptions, so he kept this to himself and maintained himself alongside Lord Otori, behaving his best making sure he gave his all to achieving everything the Lord wanted or asked from him . Lian Hearn also uses Metaphors to describe the relationship between Takeo and Lord Otori, the character compares the events to that of a Heron searching for his fish "Otori Shigeru was the heron, and I was the little wriggling thing he had scooped up, plunging down the mountain into my world and swooping away again", through this metaphor the character explain how Otori saved him, took him under his wing without asking for anything but appreciation, swooping him away from everything he has ever known into a strange world he has yet to get accustomed to. It all happens very quickly like the heron preys for his fish, and just when it least expects it, it grabs it and takes the fish to keep it in his hollow peak, with patience, ambition, and expecting absolutely nothing in return. This was a pretty good book, it was interesting to read the different points of
